HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER OF HEALTH MATES?

Myself and Mariam started in March 2017.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN HEALTH MATES?

After years of wanting to lose weight, but continuing to gain more health issues, this pushed me to take action. After discussing this with Mariam, we set our selves challenges to lose weight. My
challenge was to lose 25kg and Mariam’s was to lose 10kg. I won in 15 weeks!

WHAT HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN AT HEALTH MATES?

Well, I started with cardio and some weights. I then added circuits and more intense cardio. More recently I have added heavy weights thanks to my gym floor advisors Julie and Liam. I also
have completed fitness appraisals where I get regular measurements taken to stay on track of my goals and have just started Personal Training session with Liam.

WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED SO FAR, AND HOW HAS IT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

I have now lost 50kg! The first 25kg were lost in 15 weeks. This has now slowed but I am still losing a couple of kilo’s per month. I am so much more active but still struggle to sit. Training has
increased my fitness and my previous health issues have disappeared.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE?

I still want to lose another 30 kg, but my next short term goal is to get below 117kg, this will be the lightest I have been as an adult. I am also looking to tone up and add muscle.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS IN A SIMILAR POSITION AS YOU WERE?

You have to stop making excuses. I know every one of them you can think of. Too busy, tired etc. Now that I have commited
myself, I have really started to enjoy it and feel lost when I don’t come. Lastly, get someone to do it with you. Mariam while being a hindrance at times with her excuses, still always checks to see
how im going. She is always making sure I stick to my eating goals and ensured I rested when I push too hard. Between her and my wife, they have given me the support  to push through the tough times and continue to smash my goals.

I joined in March 2017.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN HEALTH MATES?

I made a bet with my brother in law about who could lose the most weight the fastest. I also wanted to be physically fit.

WHAT HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN AT HEALTH MATES?

Since March, I have enjoyed cardio and lifting weights at Health Mates. As well as creating new programs with my gym floor
advisers and always striving towards my goals with regular fitness appraisals.

WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED SO FAR, AND HOW HAS IT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

I have lost 4.5 kg so far, and I have become a lot more toned and muscular than before. This weight loss has helped my day to day life especially in regards to work. Being a nurse, I am always on my feet and running around, therefore losing this amount of weight has definitely made work easier to manage. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE?
I would like to become more toned, encourage my brother-in-law, as well as maintain and continue to grow with my fitness and
healthy lifestyle change.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS IN A SIMILAR POSITION AS YOU WERE?

Keep going! It takes months to form habits, but once you are in a routine it actually becomes fun. Be patient and you will see your hard work paying off.
